Pohang International Fireworks Festival 2026: A Day Trip from Seoul by KTX (Nov 19–21)
A Day Trip from Seoul by KTX
The Pohang International Fireworks Festival (포항국제불빛축제) is a fireworks and light festival held by the city of Pohang in North Gyeongsang Province (경북). In 2026 it runs from Thursday, November 19 to Saturday, November 21, centered on Yeongildae Beach (영일대 해수욕장) and other spots around Pohang, and entry is free. The themes are the “light” of a steel city and the “fire” of a blast furnace. It began as a fireworks show for Pohang Citizens' Day in 2004 and grew into an international fireworks event with overseas teams. The host is the City of Pohang; the organizer is the Pohang Cultural Foundation (포항문화재단).
From Seoul Station (서울역), the KTX reaches Pohang Station (포항역) in about 2 hours 15 minutes to 2 hours 34 minutes. A city bus from the station to Yeongildae makes a day trip workable; with one overnight you can add Space Walk (스페이스워크) or Homigot (호미곶) without rushing. This guide covers the venue and contacts, why Pohang puts on fireworks, what has been announced for 2026 as of October, trains and buses, day-trip and overnight plans, waterfront restaurants and hotels, plus Space Walk, Homigot and the Pohang Cruise. The 2026 program, fireworks show times and individual train times on festival days are not yet officially published. When they are, this guide will be updated.

Why Go: A City of Fire and Light
Pohang's “fire” and “light”
Pohang is a port and industrial city known for the POSCO steelworks. Night lights from the mill across the bay are part of the city's image, and the festival name comes from that. According to the Korea Tourism Organization, the festival themes are the “light” of a steel city and the “fire” of a blast furnace.
It started as a fireworks show for Pohang Citizens' Day in 2004 and later grew into an international event with overseas fireworks teams. The Korean slogan “불빛의 도시 포항, 희망으로 타오르다” (Pohang, city of lights, blazing with hope) appears on the Korea Tourism Organization festival page.
A name that faces the sunrise — Yeongildae
Yeongildae (迎日臺, 영일대) means “terrace that greets the sun.” It is Pohang's signature beach facing the East Sea (동해), known for an offshore pavilion, a shooting fountain and night walks. The sand stretch is described as about 1,750 m. During the festival the same bay becomes the backdrop for fireworks. By day you can walk the sand and the coastal path; in the evening mill lights and festival lighting overlap on the waterfront.
East Coast fireworks within a day of Seoul
From Seoul Station, the KTX reaches Pohang Station in a little over two hours. The bus link from the station to Yeongildae is simple enough for a day trip: walk the beach by day and time the evening events. With one overnight you can add Space Walk or Homigot at a slower pace. For foreign visitors, “take a train from Seoul and watch fireworks over the sea” is an easy story to plan around.
As of October 2026, though, the day-by-day stage timetable and fireworks start times are not yet in the official guides. Only the dates, venue and free admission are fixed, so set evening viewing times after those details are published.
Good to know
The Korea Tourism Organization festival page lists the 2026 dates while noting that the detailed program text is still last year's (2025) and that 2026 content is being updated. The 2026 program and fireworks show times have not been published yet. When they are, this guide will be updated.
Festival Program
As of October 10, 2026, the Korea Tourism Organization festival page lists the dates as 2026.11.19–11.21. The main and side program names on that page are still last year's (2025) content. A 2026 date-and-time timetable has not been published. The Pohang Cultural Foundation festival page also has no timetable or site-map images yet. Below are the facts that are officially published, plus program names that still appear in last year's notice.
Some search snippets mention an “international fireworks show” on a specific date, but as of October 10, 2026 the Pohang Cultural Foundation and Korea Tourism Organization guides do not fix which day that show runs. When a timetable appears, the Korea Tourism Organization and Pohang Cultural Foundation pages are the sources this guide follows.

Getting There
KTX is the simplest way from Seoul to Pohang. Below are typical times and fares from Seoul Station, plus how to move in the city. Individual train numbers, departure times and last trains for the festival dates (November 19–21) are not on a public booking calendar yet — book those times on Korail (코레일) or KorailTalk once the calendar opens for those dates.
From Pohang Station to Yeongildae, city bus 9000 is confirmed on a route toward the beach and Homigot. Adult city-bus fares are ₩1,300 cash · ₩1,200 with a transit card. On festival evenings Haean-ro can get crowded, so a hotel on the waterfront makes walking in and out easier.
| Transport | Times · duration · fare |
|---|---|
| KTX Seoul Station → Pohang Station |
About 2 hours 15 minutes–2 hours 34 minutes Standard class from ₩53,600 (some trains ₩53,200) Typical duration and fares from the October 4, 2026 timetable (dataful · epostphone). Individual train numbers and times for festival days: book on Korail |
| KTX Pohang Station → Seoul Station |
Return and last trains on festival days: book on Korail Northbound festival-day trains stabilize closer to the date. Reserve that day's trains ahead on KorailTalk or Korail |
| City bus Pohang Station → Yeongildae |
Bus 9000 and similar routes stop toward Yeongildae Beach and Homigot Adults ₩1,300 cash · ₩1,200 transit card The stop name is ‘영일대해수욕장’ (Yeongildae Beach). The same name can appear on both sides of the road — check the destination board |
| Taxi Pohang Station ↔ festival grounds |
City-route ride from the station to the waterfront. On festival days Haean-ro can be congested or controlled Fare and time depend on traffic that day |
Tip
The simplest path is KTX from Seoul Station to Pohang Station, then bus 9000 to Yeongildae.
Good to know
On bus 9000, check the stop side and destination (toward Yeongildae / Homigot) before you board. Reserve your return KTX before festival days if you can.
Last leg to the festival grounds
- Bus: From Pohang Station, bus 9000 and similar routes to the ‘영일대해수욕장’ (Yeongildae Beach) stop. Adults ₩1,300 cash · ₩1,200 transit card
- Taxi: From the station or your hotel toward Haean-ro. On festival evenings waits and detours can get long

Sample Itineraries
Individual train times and fireworks start times are not yet officially published. The plans below use only verified travel times and opening hours to sketch the overall flow. Follow the KTX tickets you booked for departure and arrival, and align evening viewing with the published timetable once it appears.
Tip
Fireworks and main events usually cluster in the evening. On a day trip, eat lunch early on Haean-ro, walk the beach and Space Walk in the afternoon, then claim a viewing spot before the night program.
Day trip (festival day)
| Time | What to do |
|---|---|
| Morning | Seoul Station KTX → Pohang Station (about 2 hours 15 minutes–2 hours 34 minutes) |
| After arrival | City bus 9000 or similar to Yeongildae Beach |
| From 10:00 | Space Walk (winter weekday opening 10:00) or a walk along the beach and offshore pavilion (Nearby) |
| Around 12:00 | Lunch — Seolmeori Hwetjip or Yeongildae Gung (from 10:30) |
| Afternoon | Walk Yeongildae Beach; scout evening viewing spots |
| Evening | Light and fireworks events at the festival grounds (start times after official publication) |
| Return | Back to Pohang Station → your booked Seoul-bound KTX (reserve the last train on Korail ahead of time) |
On a day trip, your return train time sets the whole day. For a relaxed evening show, book a late northbound train; if seats sell out early, put viewing earlier than that train.
Overnight — Day 1 (festival day)
| Time | What to do |
|---|---|
| Morning–day | Seoul → Pohang KTX. Drop bags at the hotel or walk the beach before check-in (15:00) (Where to stay) |
| Afternoon | Yeongildae Beach and the offshore pavilion, or by car to Dongbin Inner Harbor and the canal area |
| Evening | Seafood dinner (Minam Pocha and others) → festival viewing → hotel |
Overnight — Day 2

|---|---|
| Morning | Space Walk (winter weekdays 10:00–17:00 · holidays 10:00–18:00) or Homigot Sunrise Square (by car or bus 9000) |

On an overnight trip, put the festival and Haean-ro on Day 1 and Space Walk or Homigot on Day 2. Pohang Cruise (canal boat) is a nearby stop if you have a car. Fares and addresses are in the Nearby cards.
Where to Eat

Haean-ro along Yeongildae is lined with mulhoe (물회, spicy raw-fish soup), sashimi and snow-crab houses. Pohang mulhoe is often described in reviews as raw fish and vegetables in a spicy, icy broth (chojang-based), served with somyeon noodles, rice and a spicy fish stew. For how the plates look, follow the visitor-review links below.
Distances on the cards are approximate straight-line distance and estimated walking time from the festival grounds (Yeongildae Beach, 48 Haean-ro). Real alleys, crossings and festival traffic control can differ — once you arrive, use the walking route in Naver Map or KakaoMap. Hours can change by day and season; call the phone numbers on each card or use the booking app before you go.
Tip
Yeongildae Gung lists mulhoe and set tables as single-serving menus (DiningCode · Tabling). Minam Pocha and Seolmeori Hwetjip lean toward sets and rooms, so decide headcount and budget before you order.
Yeongildae Minam Pocha (영일대 미남포차), ‘seafood and snow crab right on the beach’

Signature dishes: Assorted sashimi · snow crab · mulhoe sets (price depends on market rate and set)
Hours: Can change by day and season — call 0507-1485-1363 before you go
Tip for foreign visitors: Sets are common; say your headcount and confirm the set and price before ordering. Ask about card payment before you order

A sashimi house known for mulhoe and Korean set tables. DiningCode and Tabling menus list single-serving mulhoe, a Yeongil set table and a special mulhoe, so solo diners and small groups can order easily. It sits farther north on Haean-ro than the festival grounds — good for lunch before you walk south to the beach, or for an early dinner before the show.
Type: Mulhoe · sashimi · Korean set table
Signature dishes: Mulhoe ₩18,000 · Yeongil set table (1 person) ₩25,000 · Yeongil special mulhoe ₩26,000 (DiningCode · Tabling)

Tip for foreign visitors: Staff can seat you in a room. Reviews often describe mulhoe served with somyeon, rice and a spicy fish stew

Where to Stay
The closest option is Lahan Hotel Pohang on Yeongildae Beach (about a 13-minute walk to the festival grounds). It is a landmark-style hotel that markets ocean views in every room, so fireworks night is easy on foot. Next choices are Commodore Hotel Pohang across the bay toward Songdo Beach, and downtown Benikea Pohang Hotel (English website). Distances are approximate straight-line distance and estimated walking time from the festival grounds (48 Haean-ro).
Commodore and Benikea sit on the Songdo and downtown sides, so on fireworks night a taxi or bus is more realistic than walking. Prices below are from official and booking sites as of October 10, 2026 and change by date and room type.

Tips for Foreign Visitors
Pohang has fewer English signs and menus than Seoul. These tips are useful right at the festival grounds and along Haean-ro. When official show times are published, retime only the evening stretch around those hours.
- Payment: Adult city-bus fares in Pohang are ₩1,300 cash · ₩1,200 with a transit card. A T-money or Cashbee card avoids fumbling for coins. Many restaurants and hotels take cards; at pocha and some sashimi houses, ask on the spot.
- Navigation: Naver Map or KakaoMap is stronger for Korean city buses and walking than Google Maps alone, which can misread transfers. ‘영일대해수욕장’ stops on both sides of the road can confuse — check the destination (Homigot, Yangdeok and so on).
- Translation: Use Papago's photo translate for menus and signs. Mulhoe, sets and room seating are often written only in Korean. Showing headcount and budget as numbers speeds ordering.
- Clothing: November evenings on the East Coast are windy. Fireworks spots mean long standing, so bring a jacket, hand warmers and comfortable shoes. Space Walk's 717 steps are safer in sneakers.
- Crowds: Around main events, Haean-ro, buses and taxis pack up. Reserve return KTX before festival days, and leave buffer after the show instead of sprinting straight to the station. A beachfront hotel makes walking out easier.
- Space Walk: Strong wind or rain can halt operations. Call Pohang City info (054-270-5176) before you go. Closed on the first Monday of each month (the next day if that Monday is a public holiday).
- Hotel search: In Kakao and booking apps, search 코모도호텔 포항송도, 베니키아호텔 포항 and 라한호텔 포항. If English spellings differ, match the address (71 Songdo-ro · 128 Jungang-ro · 1 Samho-ro 265beon-gil).
- Homigot · cruise: Neither is a walk from Yeongildae. Go by car, bus 9000 (toward Homigot) or taxi. Cruise boarding notices sometimes require ID at ticketing.
Tip
Festival inquiries: phone 054-289-7852~5 (City of Pohang · Pohang Cultural Foundation). If English support is unavailable, show key questions (timetable · place) in Korean with Papago.
Good to know
Festival-day traffic control and temporary shuttle notices for 2026 are not yet on the official pages. When control notices appear, adjust walking and bus detours on Haean-ro.
Nearby

Here are beach and pavilion stops you can walk to from the festival grounds, plus the canal and Homigot if you have a car. Space Walk is in walking range; Pohang Cruise and Homigot are not. Distances and times are approximate straight-line distance and estimated travel time from the festival grounds (48 Haean-ro). Photos of the offshore pavilion, Dongbin Inner Harbor, Homigot and Space Walk are from Wikimedia Commons (Space Walk: Fixateur, CC BY-SA 4.0).
In winter, Space Walk weekdays are shorter than holidays (weekdays 10:00–17:00 · holidays 10:00–18:00). Closed on the first Monday of each month, and strong wind can close entry. Homigot is worth a visit for the Hand of Coexistence and lighthouse area even outside sunrise season, but it is a fair drive from Yeongildae — better as a Day 2 morning.

Yeongildae Pavilion (영일대 해상누각), ‘terrace that greets the sun over the sea’
A pavilion that extends from the beach toward the water. A signature viewpoint for Pohang, on the same beach as the festival grounds. From the pavilion you get Yeongil Bay and the POSCO side in one sweep.
Getting there: Inside / right beside the festival grounds (Yeongildae Beach)
Hours: Beach and pavilion walks are open year-round (paths can change under festival control)
Price: Free
How long to stay: 30 minutes–1 hour

Space Walk at Hwanho Park (환호공원 스페이스워크), ‘a sky walk made of steel’
A large walkable steel sculpture. Described as a 333 m track with 717 steps, known for views over Yeongil Bay and the steelworks at night. Vehicles cannot drive up to the structure — park and walk up.
Getting there: About a 24-minute walk (about 1.8 km) from the festival grounds — straight-line distance is approximate and walking time is estimated. The listed address 30 Hwanho Gongwon-gil points to a park address about 370 m from the structure. In map apps, search the place name ‘환호공원 스페이스워크’ (Hwanho Park Space Walk)
Hours: Winter (Nov–Mar) weekdays 10:00–17:00 · holidays 10:00–18:00. Closed the first Monday of each month (next day if that Monday is a public holiday). Closed in bad weather

Price: Adults ₩15,000 · children ₩12,000 (official fare table, checked 2026-10-10)
