A Day Trip from Seoul by Train

What if the instant noodles you pick up at a convenience store became the star of a trip? The Gumi Ramyun Festival (구미라면축제) runs from Friday, November 6 to Sunday, November 8, 2026 around Gumi Station (구미역) in Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province (경북). Entry is free, and the city of Gumi says this year there will be 33 ramyeon restaurants.

Instead of eating one bowl and leaving, make it a walk through the street in front of Gumi Station, Saemaeul Jungang Market (새마을중앙시장) and Geumridan-gil (금리단길). This guide covers the train from Seoul, other places to eat besides ramyeon, hotels, and a walk around Geumosan mountain. For a day trip, stay near the station. If you stay a night, widen the plan the next day toward nature and history.

Save 구미역 in Korean as your destination so you can show it to a taxi driver or staff. The festival information mentions both the front of the station and the rear plaza. They belong to the same station but face different directions, so when you meet friends, agree on a shop name or a sign, not just the station.

Rather than waiting for friends "at the station," pick one spot you can both find. In case your phone loses signal, also save your hotel address and the name of the station you will return from.

Why Go: A Day Walking the Ramyeon City

A town where bagged ramyeon becomes the theme of a trip

The Korea Tourism Organization presents Gumi as a city that links the industrial base of the Nongshim Gumi plant with ramyeon tourism. You can see where a familiar food comes from and how the city turns it into a festival. Think of visiting the factory and eating on the festival street as two separate plans.

In Korea, ramyeon is not food for special days only. People eat it for a quick meal at a snack shop and pick it up as a snack at a convenience store. If you explain this festival to a foreign friend, it helps to talk about how Koreans eat everyday food, which toppings they add and how they enjoy it, instead of listing fancy dishes.

Korean ramyeon and Japanese ramen are different

In the Korea Tourism Organization's food explanation, Korean ramyeon is instant noodles with extras such as egg or green onion. It starts from a different place than Japanese ramen made with fresh noodles. What makes Korean ramyeon fun is that the same noodles and soup become a different bowl depending on what you add.

When you eat a broth ramyeon with egg or one with meat or seafood, compare the broth as well as the toppings. Adding rice after the noodles, or eating ramyeon with kimchi, also appears in the Korea Tourism Organization's guide to ramyeon culture. Do not assume every booth at the festival sells the same toppings or rice. Choose by the menu item you order.

Walk around the station, then head to Geumosan the next day

Geumridan-gil is a street of restaurants, cafes and shops around the rear plaza of Gumi Station and Geumosan-ro 22-gil (금오산로22길). Rather than going straight to another big meal after ramyeon, we suggest walking or resting here for a while. On a day trip, eating and resting inside the old town is simpler than squeezing in several districts.

On an overnight trip, change the mood. Spend the first day on ramyeon and back streets, and on the next day add the Geumosan Reservoir walking trail (금오산저수지 올레길) or Chaemijeong (채미정), which Gumi recommends for autumn. You do not have to climb the mountain: you can alternate food and walks.

Good to know

The official English name of the event is Gumi Ramyun Festival, as spelled by the Korea Tourism Organization. The usual English spelling of the food ("ramyeon") and the spelling in the event name differ, but they refer to the same festival.

Festival Program

The 2026 dates and venue are confirmed by official notices. Gumi's preparation notice says the number of ramyeon restaurants grows to 33, with more space to eat and rest. The 2026 information we have found has no daily hours or stage timetable yet, so we will update this section and the sample itineraries when they are announced.

What the 2026 official information shows

ItemDetails
Ramyeon restaurants33 this year, according to the food-space plan in Gumi's autumn tourism notice.
Eating and rest areasA plan to expand places to eat and rest was announced. This does not mean a guaranteed seat or no waiting to order.
Old-town connectionCentered on the area around Gumi Station, linking Munhwa-ro, the rear plaza, Geumridan-gil and Saemaeul Jungang Market.

Once booth menus and prices are listed, pick a few bowls you want in advance. If you want to compare several bowls, agree with your group how much to eat and start with small orders instead of ordering a full meal at the first booth. Do not assume booths share the same ordering method or the same lines.

If one person holds a table while another brings the food, agree on an exact meeting spot. When carrying hot broth, sort out your bags first so your hands are free, and if you are with a small child, split the roles of carrying food and looking after the child. These are travel tips, not official festival rules.

Good to know

The Korea Tourism Organization's event page says its food details are from 2025. Do not read last year's menus or hours as this year's schedule. The 33-restaurant figure in this guide comes from Gumi's 2026 announcement.

Getting There

The festival's base station is Gumi Station (구미역). From Seoul, Korail regular trains (ITX-Saemaeul, ITX-Maum and Mugunghwa) go straight to Gumi Station. Gimcheon(Gumi) Station (김천구미역) is a different station where the KTX stops, with a similar name, so make sure you choose the right destination on the booking screen.

Seoul Station (서울역) → Gumi Station (구미역)

TrainTimes
ITX-Saemaeul 1005Seoul Station 07:02 → Gumi Station 09:59 (2 hr 57 min)
ITX-Maum 1007Seoul Station 08:49 → Gumi Station 11:51 (3 hr 2 min)
Mugunghwa 1151Seoul Station 06:37 → Gumi Station 10:25 (3 hr 48 min)

Standard-class fare on the ITX-Saemaeul and ITX-Maum is ₩26,700. These times are from the regular Korail timetable, so check seat availability and any changes for your date when you book.

Gumi Station → Seoul (trains back)

Leaves Gumi StationNotes
19:24 · 19:55 · 20:33Good trains toward Seoul after dinner.
21:10The last direct train toward Seoul. It arrives at 00:02.

If you take the KTX

The KTX stops at Gimcheon(Gumi) Station, not Gumi Station. From Gimcheon(Gumi) Station to the festival (in front of Gumi Station) it is about 20.2 km by car, or about 25 minutes by taxi. Because the regular trains from Seoul Station stop right in front of the festival, the difference between the two routes is smaller than it looks once you add the transfer.

Kakao T shuttle

A Kakao T shuttle runs direct from Seoul (Sadang Station (사당역), Seoul Station (서울역), Jamsil Station (잠실역)), Daejeon (대전), Daegu (대구), Busan (부산) and Gwangju (광주) to the festival site. Book in the Kakao T app → Shuttle menu → the '지역축제' (regional festivals) tab.

Tip

Save Gumi Station / Gimcheon(Gumi) Station / your hotel address separately on your phone. Putting them on one screen helps you avoid showing the wrong destination while you travel.

The last stretch to the festival

The festival center is Yeokjeon-ro right in front of Gumi Station, about 320 m in a straight line from the station. You walk there after getting off the train. The front and the rear plaza that the official information mentions are the front and back exits of the same station, so when you meet friends, agree on a shop name or a sign too.

Most hotels are not near the station. The Geumosan-side and Indong-side hotels are 9–15 minutes by taxi from the festival, so choose your hotel first and then plan how to get back and forth.

Sample Itineraries

Train times are from the regular Korail timetable. The official festival hours have not been announced, so the meal and walk times are examples I set.

Tip

You do not have to fit several bowls of ramyeon, a big meal and a long walk into one trip. First pick the ramyeon you most want to eat and the street you most want to walk.

Day trip — Saturday, November 7

TimeWhat to do
07:02Leave Seoul Station on ITX-Saemaeul 1005
09:59Arrive at Gumi Station. Look at the festival map and agree on a meeting spot

13:00Walk off lunch at Saemaeul Jungang Market (about 4 minutes on foot)
14:30Rest at a cafe on Geumridan-gil (about 16 minutes on foot). Watch for the construction and one-way section
17:30Pick dinner from the restaurant cards. Songjuk Chobap closes 15:00–17:00, so go after 17:00
19:00Return to Gumi Station for the 19:24 or 19:55 train. The last train is 21:10

If you ate several kinds of ramyeon at lunch, keep dinner optional. Kim Taeju Seonsan Gopchang and Songjuk Chobap are a 17–18 minute walk from the festival, so if you eat dinner there, work backward from your train time.

Where to Eat

At the festival, eat ramyeon, and for other meals pick from the places in Gumi City's official restaurant guide. The restaurants below are separate restaurants in Gumi, not festival booths. Some branches have similar names, so save both the name and the address.

Prices and hours are as listed in Gumi City's guide, which we read on October 11, 2026. Portions, menus and break times differ, so choose by whether you are eating alone or sharing. On a day when you have eaten plenty of ramyeon, save one favorite place for your next meal instead of lining up several restaurants.

Kim Taeju Seonsan Gopchang (김태주선산곱창주식회사), ‘a spicy hot pot for two’

The signature dish is gopchang jeongol (곱창전골), a hot pot of beef intestines. We suggest it for a group that wants something other than ramyeon, but if intestines are new to you, read the menu first.

Type: Korean · gopchang hot pot
Signature dishes: Seasoned gopchang jeongol ₩10,000 per person, minimum 2 servings. Rice ₩1,000, fried rice ₩2,000 extra
Hours: 08:00–22:30 (Gumi City guide). The guide lists no closing day
Tip for foreign visitors: Check the minimum order first. Gopchang is an organ meat, so do not pick it as a vegetarian dish, and ask before ordering if there is anything you cannot eat.
Getting there: About an 18-minute walk from the festival (about 1,361 m)
Address · phone: 77 Songwon-seo-ro, Gumi-si (경북 구미시 송원서로 77) · 054-458-4129

Single Beonggeul Sikdang (싱글벙글식당), ‘a choice of clear or spicy soup’

A pufferfish restaurant whose Gumi City listing shows clear pufferfish soup and spicy pufferfish stew side by side. After ramyeon, compare the spicy dish with the clear one if you want a different broth.

Type: Korean · pufferfish
Signature dishes: Clear pufferfish soup (복맑은탕) and spicy pufferfish stew (복매운탕), ₩12,000 each, rice included
Hours: 05:00–21:00 (Gumi City guide). The guide lists no closing day
Tip for foreign visitors: “Maldeun-tang” (맑은탕) means the clear broth and “maeun-tang” (매운탕) the spicy one. The clear dish is still fish, so if you have food restrictions, do not decide by the name alone.
Getting there: About a 2-minute walk from the festival (about 164 m). Do not mix this main branch (10 Yeokjeon-ro) up with other branches.

Songjuk Chobap (송죽초밥), ‘sushi or fresh cod soup for a change’

Besides sushi, the menu has fresh cod soup, mulhoe (cold raw-fish soup) and hoedeopbap (raw fish over rice). It is a candidate when you want a meal other than ramyeon and hot pot, or when your group's tastes differ.

Type: Japanese · sushi · fish soup
Signature dishes: Sushi ₩15,000, fresh cod soup ₩18,000, mulhoe and hoedeopbap ₩13,000 each
Hours: 11:00–21:00 · break 15:00–17:00 · closed the third Sunday (Gumi City guide)
Tip for foreign visitors: Decide first whether you want cooked fish or something served cold. A sushi set does not show every ingredient from its name, so ask about anything you cannot eat.
Getting there: About a 17-minute walk from the festival (about 1,258 m)
Address · phone: 9 Gumijungang-ro 31-gil, Gumi-si (경북 구미시 구미중앙로31길 9) · 054-453-1286

If you choose a place that is closed on the third Sunday, check your travel dates against its actual open days. The festival's last day, November 8, is the second Sunday, but this guide cannot promise special closings or menu changes. Instead of hanging your key meal on one restaurant, write down a different type of restaurant as a backup.

Where to Stay

If you stay overnight, choose the location first. The Geumosan side pairs with the next day's walk, and the Indong and industrial area connects with meals and plans there. None of the three hotels below is right next to the station, so plan the trip between the festival and your hotel separately.

When you book, compare room type, whether breakfast is included and the cancellation terms, even for the same hotel. The total at checkout tells you more about the cost than the first price shown. Whether rooms are still available on the festival weekend, and the real price, only show up when you search with your actual dates.

Hotel Geumosan (호텔 금오산), ‘for the next day's walk’

A hotel on Geumosan-ro listed in Gumi City's tourist hotel guide. If you plan to see Geumosan Reservoir and Chaemijeong the next day, its location is worth considering.

Type: Tourist hotel

Price on booking sites: Expedia showed ₩81,818 before taxes and fees, ₩99,000 with them, for one night on October 18–19 (checked October 11, 2026). This is not the price for the festival weekend (November 7–8).
Tip for foreign visitors: Plan which bags go on the next day's walk and which you pick up on the way back. Do not assume breakfast, bag storage or early check-in come with the booking.

Wyndham's official page lists it as a non-smoking hotel in the Indong area, with a mini fridge, microwave and free Wi-Fi in the rooms. A restaurant and fitness center are also listed, so it suits a trip where you spend time in the hotel.

Type: Non-smoking hotel
Check-in · check-out: 15:00 / 11:00 (public booking site)
Price on booking sites: Expedia showed ₩98,112 before taxes and fees, ₩107,923 with them, for 2 adults for one night on October 18–19 (checked October 11, 2026). This is not the price for the festival weekend (November 7–8).
Tip for foreign visitors: Read the dates, number of guests and currency together on the booking page, and compare the total at checkout and the cancellation terms. Read the stay dates next to the price.
To the festival: About 15 minutes by taxi (about 9.5 km)

When you compare rooms, first write down the number of guests and the bed setup. Even at a similar price, the room you end up choosing can differ by whether meals are included or how long you can cancel. Save the hotel's English name and Korean address together, and reread the stay dates on your confirmation before you leave.

Tips for Foreign Visitors

If your Korean is limited, do not worry about pronouncing a shop name correctly. Show the address and the dish you want on your screen together. Keep the screen you use to send questions separate from the screen where the seller shows an answer. If the translation does not get your meaning across, rewrite the names of ingredients you cannot eat instead of adding longer sentences.

Think of your companions' tastes and stamina as part of the plan. If one person wants lots of spicy ramyeon and another wants to wander streets, alternate meals and walks so each gets time. With children or slower walkers, think first about resting around the station instead of adding one more far sight.

Good to know

The restaurants and hotels in this guide are options to help you decide. Tell festival booths apart from separate restaurants, and read each dish's ingredients, minimum order and booking terms.

We split this section into places near the station for a day trip and the Geumosan side to add on an overnight trip. This is not a list to fit into one day: choose by whether you want to rest after eating or walk in nature. The time to stay below is my travel suggestion, not official visiting hours.

Geumridan-gil (금리단길), ‘cafes and back streets after ramyeon’

A street of restaurants, cafes and shops introduced in Gumi City's food-street guide. The route centers on the rear plaza of Gumi Station and Geumosan-ro 22-gil, so it works as an old-town walk after eating at the festival.

Getting there: About a 16-minute walk from the festival (about 1,219 m). The route centers on Geumosan-ro 22-gil, which leads from the rear plaza of Gumi Station.
Construction notice: Pedestrian-environment work runs from March 1, 2026 to January 31, 2027 (planned), and Geumosan-ro 22-gil and nearby roads are one-way, only from the rear plaza of Gumi Station toward Geumosan-ro (Gumi City notice).
Hours: Each shop sets its own hours
How long: A relaxed walk including time sitting in a cafe. Adjust for whether you only walk or also shop.

Saemaeul Jungang Market (새마을중앙시장), ‘an everyday market by the station’

A market that Gumi's autumn travel guide lists as a place to eat near Gumi Station. It is a market of separate shops, apart from the ramyeon festival, so we suggest alternating the festival street with local meals.

Getting there: About a 4-minute walk from the festival (about 299 m)
Hours: Each shop sets its own hours
How long: A suggestion that depends on whether you only browse or also shop or eat

Geumosan Reservoir Walk (금오산저수지 올레길), ‘a waterside walk for the next day’

Gumi recommends a walk around Geumosan Reservoir and nearby Chaemijeong as an autumn course. If you spent the day before on ramyeon and city streets, change the mood the next day with a walk by the water.

Getting there: About 5 minutes by taxi from the festival (about 3.2 km). On foot it is about 36 minutes (about 2.7 km).
How long: Leave separate time for the round trip, the walk and rests. Rather than aiming to walk the whole way around, pick a turning-back point based on your group's pace and your train home.
Tip for foreign visitors: Keep this walk separate from a hike to the mountain summit. If you carry bags, think first of a short loop that brings you back.

Chaemijeong Pavilion (채미정), ‘a pavilion at the end of a walk’

A pavilion near the entrance to Geumosan. Gumi City's guide says it was built in 1768 to honor the scholar Gil Jae (길재). Reading that it remembers a man who lived in his home town after the Goryeo dynasty ended lets you see it as more than a photo backdrop.

Getting there: About 7 minutes by taxi from the festival (about 4.2 km). 249 Namtong-dong, Gumi-si. By city bus, get off at the Geumosan stop (routes 27, 27-1, 27-2, 27-3).
Hours: Gumi City's guide lists no closing days. No fixed opening or closing time is shown.
Price: Free (Gumi City guide)
How long: Combine it with the reservoir walk and leave time to look around slowly
Tip for foreign visitors: Instead of memorizing the pavilion's name and the person, start by reading whom this place remembers. You can then connect the history with today's walk.

When you finish the trip, move by the station you are returning from, not the last sight you saw. If you must go back to your hotel for bags, plan it differently from going straight from a walk to the station. Even if you skip one place, leave time to finish your last meal comfortably and get ready to board.

The Gumi Ramyun Festival is a chance to walk an unfamiliar town built around one familiar food. On a first visit, eat ramyeon near the station, then pick a market or a cafe street. If you stay until the next day, adding a walk by the water or one pavilion is enough to meet a different Gumi.
